Editorial Policy.

Independence, sourcing, bylines, accuracy, and the things we will not publish.

How we decide what to publish, who writes it, and what we do when we get it wrong. Last updated: August 3, 2026.

Independence

Editorial decisions on Cannabest are made independently of any commercial relationship. No advertiser, client, or partner reviews our content before publication, and none has the ability to change or remove factual content. Our owner's commercial relationships are disclosed rather than accommodated. See Disclosures.

Sourcing

Every factual claim on Cannabest traces to one of three things: our own licensed and dated data, a named authoritative source such as a state regulator, or first-hand work by a named person on a recorded date.

We do not source claims from other directories, aggregator content, or unattributed industry commentary. When we cite a regulator or a public record, we link it.

Bylines and authorship

We publish three kinds of content and attribute each differently, on purpose.

Directory and data-derived content, including the summary text describing a city, dispensary, or brand, is generated from our own structured data. It is labeled as data-derived and carries no byline, because attributing generated text to a person would be a lie.

Written editorial carries the Cannabest Team byline. We are a small team and we write collectively; we do not invent individual personas to make a team look larger than it is.

First-hand reviews, when they launch, will carry the name of the person who did the testing and the date they did it. A claim about having personally used something has to be attributable to a specific someone, and we will not publish that kind of claim under a team byline.

We do not present machine-generated text as human-written work, and we do not use invented author personas anywhere.

Accuracy and verification

Facts derived from menu data carry the date we last observed them, taken from our ingestion record rather than from an editor's assertion. Data older than our freshness thresholds is withdrawn or marked stale rather than presented as current. Our thresholds are published in our Methodology.

Corrections

Editorial contact: hello@cannabestreviews.com. We correct errors, we date the correction, and we do not silently overwrite. Substantive corrections are noted on the page. See Corrections for how to report one and what happens next.

What we will not publish

  • Health or medical claims about cannabis. We are a retail directory, not a medical resource. Talk to a clinician.
  • Content targeting or appealing to anyone under 21.
  • Fabricated user activity: invented reviews, invented questions, synthetic ratings.
  • Claims of first-hand experience we did not have.
  • Anything a commercial relationship required us to say.

Age and audience

Cannabest is intended for adults 21 and older in jurisdictions where cannabis is legal. We do not facilitate sales and we do not ship anything.

Compliance

Cannabis marketing is regulated differently in every state, and rules change. We do not make claims about product effects, we do not advertise on behalf of licensees, and we review our approach when regulations change. Where a state requires specific language or restricts specific presentations, we follow that state's rules on pages covering it.
